Interest in Portuguese has grown immensely due to the large numbers of Americans representing American companies doing business in Brazil. Conversely, the citizens of Brazil are eager to learn English, due to the greater opportunities and higher wages available to individuals with bilingual skills. As the American presence in Brazil grows; the demand to learn the language spoken by Americans increases.

Currently many Brazilians learn English with British accents. All the English voices on the CD are by native Americans, while the Portuguese is spoken by native Brazilians. Furthermore, these products are positioned for current technology trends, delivering their timely lessons on CD, rather than on the decreasingly popular cassette format. The books and CDs have already received widespread publicity. Articles appeared o "The Brasilians" (a bilingual newspaper issued in New York City), a very favorable article was published in the Oakland Press in Detroit, and also in the Brazilian newspaper called "A Folha do Paraná". During a visit to Brazil last April, I conducted three radio interviews. One especially important was in the Brazilian "Radio Nacional" radio station, which broadcasts to 660 stations, covering all 26 Brazilian states.

Se é dificil para o brasileiro aprender inglês, é igualmente dificil para o americano aprender o Português. Pensando nisso, a brasilerira Lourdes Helena Gallagher lançou o livro Portuguese for Beginners. O livro totalmente traduzido, inclusive os passos para o aprendizado da gramatica portuguesa, vem acompanhado de um album com dois CDs. Lourdes leciona há 14 anos nos Estados Unidos, na Universidade de Detroit Mercy, aonde ela ensina o português, e a Universidade adotou o livro e os CDs como parte do método de ensino. Lourdes tem o seu livro distribuido por todos os estados americanos, e tambem no exteriror. Mas a professora não para por ai. Ela lançou o livro Inglês para iniciantes, juntamente com Leeann Underhill, Alex alfinito, Michael Gardner, Daniel Burns and Ms. James. Este livro é especialmente para os brasucas que querem aprender o inglês. Ela diz que a maioria dos cursos administrados no Brasil são de origem britanica, dificultando a compreensão da língua pales americano, com as vozes de alguns alunos dela.
